This is our latest home built, and it was completed and occupied in November 2025. This home achieved a 6-Star BEES Certification due to its energy efficiency design and its included solar panels on the roof. This property is our pilot project to extend the availability of PV panels, battery storage, and potential Electric vehicle chargers to our units.
Additionally, this home has been partially built with locally manufactured materials by the Tribe’s Mill Program. This not only creates a circular economy but also keeps funds in our community, generates employment, and creates capacity and professional development for our members.
This property was funded by Alaska Housing Finance Corporation’s Rural Professional Housing (AHFC-RPH) grant. As required by the grant, the home is intended for Educators, Health, or Law Enforcement personnel for 10 years, for which the Tribe and the Galena City School District (GCSD) have signed an Agreement for working collaboratively in the use of this property. This collaborative project has recently showcased by the AHFC Blog in July 2025
The Tribe understands that educators, health and elderly care, and law enforcement workers are essential for our community. The Tribe has been awarded the same grant for 2026, for the construction of another, identical home during the Summer
