Our Housing Programs
The Louden Housing Department activities are funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through NAHASDA , among other sources. These funds allow the Tribe to provide a variety of housing-related services to qualifying applicants. Currently, Louden offers several programs to tribal members living in or moving to Galena.
Affordable Rental in Tribal Units: Provides subsidized rent in one of the nine tribally owned homes. Usually, the rent charged ranges from $300/mo. up to 15% of the household income.
Rental Assistance in non-tribal units: Provides cash assistance for paying rent in non-tribally owned homes, so the rent paid out-of-pocket doesn’t exceed 15% of the household income.
Down Payment Assistance: Provides up to $16,000 in non-refundable funds to cover closing costs in home purchases.
Home Rehabilitation Assistance: Assists with residential units’ rehabilitation for qualifying homeowners, initially with repairs or renovations up to $65,000.
The Department is actively working on developing a Path to Ownership program that we expect to initiate soon.
