IHBG Comp
Grant Application 2026
Louden Tribe applying for $5M for HUD’s grants, and we need your help!
Did you know that Louden is preparing to apply for one of its largest grants in at least a decade?
Yes! We are actively working on the HUD-IHBG COMP application, seeking about $5,000,000 for the construction of several new homes for our Affordable Housing Program. The Tribe currently owns ten units in Galena, of which nine have been built in the last five years. Although a great step forward, it is far from enough to fully address the always acute housing deficit and needs of our tribal members
The IHBG (Indian Housing Block Grant) is part of NAHASDA, and one of the few grants dedicated to housing issues in Tribal land for Native Americans. Unfortunately, it is extremely competitive, so we need to make every bit count.
So, how can you help…?
One of the strongest ways to support this application is by showing the real housing needs of our members. That means having an updated list of people interested in our programs.
There are lots of tribal members who may need assistance that don’t apply for services, because they think that they won’t qualify; they assume they make too much, that the application process is too complicated, etc. However, many times they are surprised when they learn that this is not always true.
The NAHASDA grants (like IHBG) have much higher income limits than the well-known BIA-HIP. For instance, as for 2025, a family of four qualifies for full subsidies if their household income is lower than $91,440. Even if they go over this limit, they still can get partial assistance if their income is less than. $114,300. Of course, these limits vary by household size, with bigger households getting higher limits. Please check our Housing Eligibility page or give us a call to see if your household qualifies.
Also, it is not even necessary to be enrolled with the Louden Tribe, because for NAHASDA, you are eligible if at least one Native American is in the household. We have streamlined our application to facilitate the process to the maximum extent as well.
As a bonus, once approved, you get access to apply to all our programs, including
Down Payment Assistance
Rent Costs Reimbursement if you rent properties not owned by the Tribe
Rehabilitation and repair of a property used as your main residence.
Path to Ownership Program (not implemented yet)
